Hermosa Valley Valet Safety Program:
 
Needed are 15 parents to volunteer one day a week for a 45 minute shift to
assist the student valets from 7:45a.m. - 8:30a.m.  Your responsibility is
to support the duties of the 5 student valets that are opening the car doors
and greeting their fellow peers as they arrive to school entering the Valley
parking lot.  Each day requires a three adult team; one in the staff middle
lot parking entrance to allow only staff to park in that lot (staff has
passes to identify their car), one a the stop sign on the drop off curb to
stop the entering set of cars and assist the students at the crosswalk (if
needed) and one at the other end of the drop off curb to hold up and cue the
incoming set of cars.  The volunteer students are present to open the car
doors and assist the dropped off students in exiting on to the curb in a
safe manner.  
 
If we are unable to get 15 parents to volunteer for a one day a week shift,
we will be forced to eliminate this safety program.  Since the launch of the
pilot program in January, all cars that entered the parking lot were safely
and efficiently unloaded at school.  If not for the work of the students and
parent and community volunteers, this could not have happened.  Although
challenging at times, many parents, school teachers, staff and
administration and city officials said it is a wonderful program that
benefited the school and our community.  Again, it would not have happened
without the selfless act of volunteering 45 minutes of time before school.
