A Letter from the Principal at Hermosa Valley

Welcome back from what we hope was a very relaxing Spring Break for
everyone.

We certainly appreciate the importance of family events and vacations;
however the current budget crisis is having a major impact on our schools
and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. By now you will have
received a few letters home regarding the Excellence in Education Annual
Appeal (EEC), along with the possible programs that may be cut from the
district.

There are many ways to help minimize the impact that upcoming budget cuts
will have on our school district and your children.

On Friday April 4 there were approximately 61 students absent from Hermosa
Valley School; 47 students were absent for the full day. This is not
particularly unusual on the day prior to a holiday or school break as many
parents opt to start their vacation early.
 
Unfortunately, Hermosa Valley lost $1833 of State funding (your tax dollars)
on April 4 due to full day absences incurred that day. This funding is lost
regardless of the reason for the absence.

Help your district by ensuring your children are at school. If you plan on
being absent for 5 days or more you can initiate an Independent Study
contract, or for shorter absences you can make a tax-deductible donation of
$39.00 per day to reimburse the school for lost funding.
